Wizz Air has extended its agreement with AVTECH to cover Wizz Air Hungary Ltd and Wizz Air Malta Ltd, following a successful evaluation that began with Wizz Air UK. The expanded three-year partnership brings AVTECH's in-flight weather services to a significantly larger share of the airline's 237-strong Airbus fleet and its more than 75 million annual passengers.
At the heart of the collaboration are two complementary services. Aventus delivers tailored wind and temperature data directly to the cockpit during flight, enabling pilots to optimize their route and altitude in real time. SIGMA provides automated alerts for turbulence and other weather-related hazards along the flight path. Both services are powered by high-resolution aviation forecasts from the UK Met Office.
The combination is designed to work quietly in the background — but the effect is felt on board. Passengers can expect smoother climbs and descents, less turbulence, and more punctual arrivals.
"This functionality operates behind the scenes, but the benefits are noticeable for passengers," says Diarmuid Ó Conghaile, Chief Operations Officer at Wizz Air. "Our customers will experience quieter, smoother flights with less turbulence, especially during climb and descent."
Ó Conghaile also highlighted the strategic fit with the airline's broader priorities: "By combining the latest advances in weather forecasting and flight planning, Wizz Air is giving its 2,700 pilots the latest generation in in-flight tools — serving our passengers with a better flying experience. Wizz Air is proud to be the first adopter of these systems, well ahead of our main competitors."
For AVTECH, the expansion is the outcome of a deliberate, evidence-based process. "We are pleased to expand our service delivery to Wizz Air following a thorough evaluation," says David Rytter, CEO of AVTECH. "The combination of Aventus and SIGMA provides accurate, customized data directly to the cockpit, along with precise warnings of turbulence and other weather-related hazards. We look forward to a strong collaboration aimed at improving efficiency, punctuality, and passenger comfort across their operations."
The deal reinforces AVTECH's position as a provider of choice for airlines looking to get more from modern aviation weather data — and signals growing confidence in the tangible, measurable value that in-flight optimization can deliver at scale.
